Sony Xperia sola drops by the office, poses for our camera

We have another member of the Sony NXT line in our office – the Sony Xperia sola.

The Xperia sola is positioned below the Xperia S and ion flagships and the Xperia P and in front of the Xperia U.

It offers a slightly larger display than the Xperia U and a slightly smaller one than the Xperia P. Check out our video hands-on below.

The Xperia sola comes in an interesting form factor with a slightly recessed chin at the bottom front complete with an LED. It’s very rectangular in shape and rests flat on its front and back. The display is a 3.7″ 480 x 854 unit with the Sony BRAVIA mobile engine for enhanced contrast.

An interesting feature is the floating touch display that allows you to interact with the phone via hovering your finger a centimeter above the display, a feature which is made useful mainly for the web browser where you can hover above links and activate them upon a succeeding press.

The Sony Xperia Sola

The Xperia sola runs on Android 2.3.7 with Sony’s custom launcher preinstalled. It runs smoothly and offers a wide range of widgets an color themes.

It’s NFC enabled and comes bundled with tags that you can place in your home or work place for easy toggle of profiles and settings.

Sony’s xLOUD feature is present in the music player and so does TrackID for music recognition. On the back there’s a 5 MP snapper with a single LED flash and 720p video recording.

Stay tuned for our in depth review of the sola in the near future.
