Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102 battery test finishes, results come out impressive

The battery test of the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102 is done – it took some time, but the Y Duos is quite different from most other phones we’ve tested, both because it’s a dual-SIM phone and because it’s a fairly low-end Android.

We couldn’t run the video battery test as our standard test videos just wouldn’t work and a lower-res video wouldn’t make for a fair comparison. We doubt many people will be interested in watching a movie on a 3.14″ QVGA screen anyway.

Instead, we focused on the talk time testing. The Galaxy Y Duos is a dual-SIM, dual-standby phone and we left both radios active. We test all phones in 3G mode for the call test and we did the same for this phone too. But we also ran the test in 2G, since only one of the SIM cards of the Y Duos can be in 3G mode and the other is forced to use 2G networks.

In 3G mode, the Galaxy Y Duos lasted 8 hours and a couple of minutes – not the top performer, but an excellent result for a 1300mAh battery. We expected the phone to last longer in 2G over 3G mode (mostly all do) but the result was quite amazing – nearly 18 hours of talk time, or a little over what Samsung have listed in their official specs.

As for web browsing, the Y Duos S6102 lasted a respectable 5 hours and 28 minutes. That’s pretty good and should be quite enough for all the web browsing you’re likely to do on an entry-level phone.

Our final endurance rating is a little over two days. Note that we used two hours of 3G talk time per day along with an hour of browsing to arrive at that number (usually we assume an hour each of 3G talking, web browsing and video watching a day). If we plug in the 2G talk time result into the equation, the endurance gets close to three days.

The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102 proved to be a capable runner in our battery race. Considering people looking at a dual-SIM phone will likely use it mainly for talking, the Y Duos will easily last for a couple of days on a charge.
