Nikon announces no less than 10 new Coolpix cameras ahead of CP+ 2013

The announcement includes two budget compacts, five mid-range compacts, and three waterproof models. The key word is obviously zoom capabilities and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The highlights include the Coolpix P520 42x superzoom with a GPS receiver, the Coolpix L820 30x budget superzoom, and the S9500 22x compact superzoom with GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The list of the mid-rangers also includes the Coolpix S9400 with 18x zoom and the really compact CoolPix S5200 with Wi-Fi connectivity.

The waterproof models are the rugged Nikon Coolpix AW110/AW110s and the cheaper, but sleek looking S31.

The budget offerings Coolpix L28 and L27 complete the tally. The announcement comes ahead of the start of this year’s CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show in Japan.

In much the same way, the camera settings can be adjusted by pressing the side button and shaking the camera instead of struggling with the controls (presumably with your gloves on). These are mid-range models, which can survive up to 18m water depth, up to 2m high drops and withstand temperatures of -10C. Information from the built-in altimeter, depth gauge, and barometer can be displayed on the camera’s screen and even stored inside the individual image data.

Nikon Coolpix S31

The Nikon Coolpix S31 is a cheaper underwater camera. It can be submerged in up to 5 meters of water depth and can be dropped from a 1.2m high. Unlike the other budget solutions from the L-series however, the S31 has its own rechargeable Li-Ion battery.
