LG G Watches now as cheap as ever, first-gen retails around 100 euro

If you’ve been waiting for prices of smartwatches to drop to more wallet-friendly levels, you may have waited long enough. Arguably the best looking piece to be actually available for purchase, the LG G Watch R can be found on most European markets around the €200 mark, more easily palatable than the launch figures of €300.

That nets you one of the most watch-like bodies on the market, with IP67 certification at that. Powered by a Snapdragon 400 chip, found in full-fledged smartphones, the LG G Watch R comes with a round 320 x 320 P-OLED display.

Now, folks on the other side of the Atlantic are less in luck for a change, and the G Watch R is listed on US Amazon for its original price of $300.

Meanwhile the previous generation LG G Watch (without the R, read “square”) can be had in Europe for as little as €100, and in more than one online store. Indian and US retailers mostly stick to the same $160 price tag, however.

The current LG G Watch R is a reasonable compromise for classic watch fans that want to step up a notch in technology, while waiting for the admittedly more stylish LG G Watch Urbane and Huawei Watch to make it to market. The Motorola Moto 360 is another such offering, but it has managed to retain its original price, and picky buyers may not be able to swallow the unlit display controller strip at the bottom.
