Facebook’s Trending section makes it to Android

Back in January, Facebook introduced a new Trending section on its website. And starting today, Trending is going to be available inside Facebook’s Android app. It will only be seen by people in the US for now, however. Support for Trending on iOS and for other countries is reportedly “coming soon”, though with no time frame attached.

Trending helps you discover stuff that is interesting, relevant conversations about hot topics, and stories from different sources.

When you tap on a topic in the Trending section, conversations will be organized in up to five categories – Articles, In the Story (shows you posts from “people who are part of the story”), Friends and Groups (gives you the opinions of people in your network), Near the Scene (with posts from people who are close to where the story is happening), and Live Feed (which shows you a real-time stream of reactions from people across the world).

Only public posts and ones that you are in the audience for will make it to Trending, as before. The section is going to show relevant stuff ranked based on engagement, timeliness, and some other secret sauce.
