Facebook could buy Face.com, make tagging easier than ever

There are unconfirmed reports circling the web saying that Facebook is aimed at buying face recognition company Face.com for between $80 and $100 million.

This might mean that Facebook will implement the face recognition technology of Face.com to automatically tag the people in your photos and spare you the effort.

Facebook hasn’t been standing very still these last couple of months, going public with a very healthy, $100 billion valuation, acquiring Instagram for a cool billion, announcing its own App Center and allegedly planning to release its own phone a year from now and perhaps buying Opera to create its own web browser.

Face.com offers its own Facebook tagging app, called Photo Tagger and an iOS app called KLIK. When confronted with the question whether there’s any truth in the latest reports Face.com CEO Gil Hirsch gave the standard “no news to announce” answer.
