Hero4 Session is GoPro’s smallest camera yet, waterproof without case

GoPro has announced its smallest camera ever. Dubbed Hero4 Session, the new device is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than other Hero4 models, the company claims. “We challenged ourselves to produce the smallest, lightest, most convenient GoPro possible,” said Nicholas Woodman, the company’s founder.

The Hero4 Session is capable of capturing 1080p videos at 60 fps, 1440p at 30 fps, and 720p at 100 fps. There is, however, no support for 4K nor 720p at 240fps modes. It can shoot 8MP stills, and can go up to 10m underwater without needing a case. Read more »

Intel Compute Stick now available for purchase in India

The Intel Compute Stick, which was announced back in January this year and went on sale in the US in the month of April, is now available for purchase in India.

Online retailer Flipkart is selling the compact computer-on-a-stick for INR9,999 ($155). This compares to the $150 price tag that it carries in the US. Read more »

Cortana update adds several new categories of interests in India

Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana has received an update that brings a slew of new categories of interests, such as daily routine, music, food, and finance.

China’s largest taxi app firm Didi Kuaidi may enter US market

According to reports out of China, the country’s top taxi app company Didi Kuaidi – which is backed by Asian giants Alibaba and Tencent – is planning to enter the US market next year.

Russian lawmakers approve controversial Internet privacy law

The Russian parliament passed a controversial Internet privacy law yesterday that makes it mandatory for Internet search engines to remove certain search results about a person at their request.

Under the new legislation – which seeks to emulate EU’s right to be forgotten law – a person can request online search engines like Google to remove search results related to them that they deem are incorrect, no longer relevant, or illegal. Read more »

New MasterCard feature will see users getting their online purchases approved with a selfie

MasterCard will soon start testing a new feature that will require users to just take a selfie to get their online purchases approved. The experiment will begin this fall, and will involve 500 customers. If everything goes well, the feature will be launched publicly sometime after that.

You’ll be required to download the MasterCard phone app to use the feature. They way it works is: after you pay for something, you’ll see an authorization pop-up containing various options. Just choose the facial recognition option, stare at the device, and then blink to snap a photo of yourself – that’s it. Read more »

Hackers penetrate Plex’s forums; company claims payment data safe

Media Streaming Company Plex has announced that the server hosting its forums and blog has been compromised by hackers, who managed to gain access to IP addresses, private messages, email addresses, and encrypted forum passwords.

It is, however, being claimed that only forum members are affected. Plex said that credit card and other payment data is complete safe as it is not stored on any of the company’s servers. Read more »

Casio’s first smartwatch set for 2016 release in Japan and US

Japanese electronics manufacturer Casio has become the latest company to hop on the smartwatch bandwagon. It has been working on an intelligent timepiece for the past four years, and is planning to release it next year.

According to the company’s president Kazuhiro Kashio, the smartwatch has been developed keeping in mind the mass market’s need for comfort and durability. ” A device that won’t break easily, is simple to put on and feels good to wear,” he said, adding that it is aimed at those involved in outdoor sports and leisure. Nexus 6, YotaPhone 2 get big price cuts in the UK

Following Motorola’s UK summer sale, which saw the Nexus 6 smartphone being offered on discounted rates, Google has also slashed the price of the handset in the country.

The 32GB and 64GB models of the device – which usually sell for £479 and £549 – are now listed at £304 and £379 on the Google Play Store. It is, however, not yet known whether or not it’s a temporary price cut as Google hasn’t yet officially announced it. Read more »

Facebook Messenger’s money-sending feature now available to everyone in US

Just a few months after it was announced, the peer-to-peer payments feature of Facebook’s Messenger app is now available to everyone in the United States.

The news was announced by David Marcus, who leads the company’s messaging business. “Add your Debit Card and pay anyone on Messenger in a few taps. Money goes straight from your checking account to the recipient’s checking account. Easy and safe,” he said. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and Tab A 9.7 prices slashed in US

Just a couple of months after launching them in the US, Samsung has slashed the prices of its Galaxy Tab A series tablets – the Tab A 9.7 and the Tab A 8.0.

Google Maps update brings real-time traffic information to 12 new Indian cities

Google has released an update to its Maps application, bringing real-time traffic information to 12 new Indian cities, including Kolkata, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Indore, Ludhiana, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Kochi, Madurai, and Bhopal. Earlier, live traffic updates were only available for Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune.

To use the feature, which is available on both mobile and desktop, you need to first turn on the Traffic layer option on your Google Maps app. Once done, you’ll be able to see routes mapped out in different colours, with green meaning no traffic delays, orange indicating a medium amount of traffic, and red meaning heavy traffic. The official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the LTE variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 has started rolling out.

Dated June 20, the update weighs in at around 925MB, and carries a build number of T335XXU1BOF8. It is currently rolling out in Switzerland, available both over-the-air (OTA) as well as via the company’s desktop PC companion app Kies. Read more »

Google Hangouts for iOS updated with new UI and ability to share multiple photos at once

The Google Hangouts iOS app has received an update, bumping it to version 4.0. The update brings a new design that the company claims makes it faster to start new conversations, and add stickers, emoji, and photos.

The updated app features a new Dialer UI for better phone calling experience, as well as a new quick compose button that allows you to quickly find contacts with whom you chat most frequently. Read more »
