Apple App Store boasts record app downloads in October

Mobile marketing company Fiksu is traditionally reporting on Apple’s App Store Competitive Index, which also shows the number of free app downloads. For October, that number is a record high 7.8 million per day. The data is measured based on the top 200 free iOS apps.

Fiksu points out October’s result is 42% higher than the one from September, when the App Store saw just over 5.5 million free app downloads per day. The reason for the jump is Apple’s strong sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The result is 39% higher download rate compared to October last year, when the company launched the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Considering Apple sold 10 million units of its latest smartphone duo during the first weekend of their availability, it’s no wonder we’re witnessing such a peak in download numbers.

Fiksu also notes that the Cost Per Loyal User Index is lower in October at $2.16 from its $2.25 in September resulting in a tendency of users to re-download their most-used apps after iPhone upgrade.
